LoC § C9380, [Introduces Pattern], dated 20th February 1959

Promulgation of the new Pattern was by a single LoC, near the end of the “C” series. Almost at its last gasp, the LoC system extended a short way into a D series and had then ceased. Curiously, each item was introduced with a “Mark 1” nomenclature and, although various issues then appeared, none advanced the Mark Number. It should be noted that the Pattern was intended for both temperate and tropical climates. Pattern 1958 W.E., Mark 2 was an all-nylon alternative, which received a Troop Trial in the 1970s, but was not adopted. Despite many subsequent modifications, no further LoC was ever issued.
