Designed to hold 12 loose rounds, the Pouch was formed to give a narrower mouth, with a broad fairlead on its reverse and the flap carried a stud, which fastened to a billet stitched to the lower front edge. LoC 11267 introduced the Mark II, noting only that it had been made of lighter materials. LoC 21689, as with the Waist belt, etc., introduced minor changes to the syntax, giving Pouch, ammunition, pistol, Sam Browne, Mark II. In 1924, LoC A 3, removed the Mark II designation from the nomenclature. The quotation marks having been removed by LoC 21689 in 1918, they now suddenly reappeared, both in the Old and New Designations, though not in the Vocabularies! Curiously, LoC C 6788, which made the Pouch obsolete in 1955, renders it as Pouch, ammunition, pistol, Sam Browne, Mk. 2 for one final time. For LoC C 4686, reference should be made to the Waist belt page.
Pouch, ammunition, pistol, Sam Browne – Variants
These are not quite as varied as the Cases, but some were larger and more squared-off, whilst others catered for different weapons. This includes a double magazine carrier for a Colt Auto, a quadruple, in-line magazine carrier for a Webley .455-in. Auto. Quite the most ridiculous was a double magazine carrier, on dog clipped straps, for carrying 30 round Colt Auto magazines. Some have belt loops fastening to studs.
