The comments under Official Documentation obviously cover this section – but who knows?
We have yet to see the 1901 edition of Rifle and Field Exercises for His Majesty’s Fleet. This edition may have made reference to new designs of accoutrements. A precedent can be found in the 1896 edition, which contains a footnote that a different method of attaching the Blanket carrier (sic) was “…under consideration…”.
