Web Equipment for Officers (R.A.F.)
Set Displays
Note: The "Basic Sets" in the first four sections below comprise the minimum equipment required for an R.A.F. Officer wearing W.E.O.. This would include a Belt, Braces, Brace attachments, a Magazine carrier (for the Colt automatic pistol) or Ammunition pouch (for the Webley or Enfield revolvers), and the appropriate Holster. To this he might choose to add a Haversack and a Water bottle in Carrier.
Basic Set, with 1st Type Holster for the Pistol, Colt, automatic, .455"
Basic set with 1st type Holster for the Colt automatic pistol. The Holster shown here is Air Ministry marked and is properly W.E. Pattern 1925, not W.E.O. (R.A.F.). However, it is identical to the W.E.O. Colt holster except for markings. To be completely correct as early issue, the Brace attachments should be the early type with a round loop. That type was not available, so the later version with a rectangular link has been substituted. The web equipment is from the Karkee Web Collection, whilst the weapons and other items displayed are from the Terry Hawker Collection. Photographs © Terry Hawker and Cathy Davis, 2012.
The first series of photos show the web equipment alone.
This series shows the equipment as used, complete with the pistol and accessories.
And finally, photos of the Pistol, Colt, automatic, .455" by itself.
